Homemade Chicken Bone Broth Recipe

Incredibly Healthy Food

Homemade chicken bone broth is an incredibly healthy food to add to your diet and it won’t break the budget to do it either. Bone broth can help aid in decreasing inflammation of the intestinal tract and gut lining.  If you have ever baked a chicken, after you consume the delicious meat for the meal instead of tossing out the carcass, a great way to repurpose the carcass is to use it to make bone broth.  Chicken bones are packed with gelatin and glycine which are great nutrients for restoring proper gut health. Other health benefits of consuming chicken bone broth are healthy skin, nails, and teeth, reduced joint pain, as well as helping fight infection.

INGREDIENTS:

-2 chicken carcasses

-2 chicken feet

-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

-2 bay leaves

-2 carrots roughly chopped

-2 celery stalks roughly chopped

-1 onion roughly chopped

– 1 bulb of garlic cut in half (less garlic can be used based on taste preference)

– salt and pepper to taste (can be added at the end)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Roughly chop the carrots, celery and onion into 2″ pieces.  It’s okay to leave the peel on the onion and carrots, they will add nutrients to the broth.

2. If you are using the entire bulb of garlic, simply cut it in half and you are done.

3. Place the 2 chicken carcasses in the crockpot, cover with celery, carrots, onion, and garlic. Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 2 bay leaves, and the 2 chicken feet.

4. Add enough water to the crock pot to cover all of the ingredients.

5. Set crock pot on high until it begins to boil then turn the temperature down to low for 12-24 hours.

6. Using a mesh strainer and another pot or large bowl, separate the solids from the broth by pouring the contents of the crockpot into the mesh strainer placed inside the new bowl.

Once you have completed the process you can choose to separate the fat or leave it in the broth.  You can store the broth in smaller containers and freeze until you are ready to use. Once you have made homemade chicken broth you will find it hard to go back to store bought broth.
